About

Taste of the Wild is—and always has been—owned and operated by one family. As pet owners, the founders of our company saw opportunity for a high-quality, yet affordable pet food option. They knew there had to be a better way. So, they created it. Inspired by the idea that no one knows what dogs and cats should eat better than their own DNA, they created Taste of the Wild: the complete nutrition nature intended for your dog or cat, in flavors their inner wolf or mountain lion would crave, at prices you can afford.

Today, Taste of the Wild is one of the fastest-growing pet food brands in the world. But we still hold true to the notion that started it all: every pet deserves the best nutrition and every pet owner deserves a fair value.

Made in the USA

Our dog foods and cat foods are made in five state-of-the-art facilities in the USA: two in California and one each in Missouri, Arkansas and South Carolina. Our priority is to source the best ingredients available. Sometimes, the best ingredients come from global suppliers. Whether global or local, we form close relationships with all our suppliers and work with them only after a careful vetting process.

Quality Dog and Cat Food

At Taste of the Wild, we strive to make the safest dog and cat food possible. Each of our quality dog food and cat food recipes is designed by our veterinarians and nutritionists to meet specific nutritional requirements and adhere to strict quality and safety standards. Taste of the Wild pet foods are made in five state-of-the-art facilities in the USA: two in California and one each in Missouri, Arkansas and South Carolina.

Taste of the Wild and Taste of the Wild PREY limited ingredient diets are high-quality, affordable, grain-free dog and cat foods based on your pet’s natural diet. In every formula, the first ingredient is from real meat, fish or fowl. We use unique proteins like wild boar, bison, smoked trout, roasted duck, venison and Angus beef to make better tasting dog and cat foods your pet will crave.

Modern science proves that your dog or cat still shares the DNA of the ancient canine or feline. Taste of the Wild dog and cat foods were created to give pets and discerning pet parents a grain-free pet food option inspired by what your dog or cat was meant to eat. To give domestic dogs and cats the vitality nature intended, their pet food must contain the best nutrition available today. And that is precisely what they get with Taste of the Wild: premium, complete, grain-free pet foods based on your pet’s ancestral diet.

Safety First. Quality Always.

You have high standards for the food your pet eats, so we have high standards for how we make it. At Taste of the Wild, healthy dog and cat food is synonymous with safe dog and cat food. We continually monitor ingredients, production environment, production processes and finished products to ensure the quality and safety of our pet food. By implementing the latest scientific and technological advancements, we have developed a comprehensive food safety system that ensures our pet food is always healthy, safe and nutritious.

Trusted Suppliers

To help ensure Taste of the Wild is the quality dog and cat food you can trust, we choose to maintain close relationships with a select few trusted suppliers. While many pet food manufacturers engage in a bidding system with suppliers, constantly switching sources, we choose to foster long-term relationships. This allows us to keep a close eye on quality and safety standards as well as keep our prices in check by creating efficiencies.

We also take care to ensure our ingredients are sustainably and humanely raised. Each bag of our healthy dog and cat foods feature a protein that has been carefully selected. These include: pasture-raised venison, bison and beef, sustainably sourced salmon, spring-fed trout, and cage-free turkey and duck.

Why Are Probiotics Important?

Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that help maintain digestive health and support a healthy immune system by keeping potentially harmful bacteria at bay. Just as in humans, probiotics help your dog or cat break down food and absorb nutrients more efficiently. And because 70 percent of an animal’s immune system is housed in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, a healthy digestive system is vital to the overall health and vitality of your pet. Every Taste of the Wild dry canine formula is enhanced with K9 Strain® Probiotics, and every Taste of the Wild dry feline formula is enhanced with Viables® Probiotics. These proprietary probiotics were developed specifically for use in our dog and cat foods.

Species-Specific Strains: When it comes to probiotics, where the bacteria come from matters. Our K9

Strain and Viables probiotics are derived from probiotic bacteria strains native to the GI tracts of each species.

Guaranteed Viability: For probiotics to be beneficial to your pet’s system, they must be “viable,” or active and able to multiply. K9 Strain and Viables Probiotics are added to Taste of the Wild dry formulas after the cooking process, which would otherwise kill these beneficial bacteria. Each pound of dry Taste of the Wild provides 80 million live, active cultures that keep the digestive and immune systems heathy.

Stringent Purification: Processed under strict quality and safety standards, our K9 Strain and Viables Probiotics are guaranteed to be free of harmful pathogens or other contaminants.

In addition to antioxidants provided by vegetables, legumes and fruits in our dog and cat foods, guaranteed levels of zinc, selenium and vitamin E help support your pet’s immune system.

  1. Omega Fatty Acid Blend

Omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids work together to help maintain healthy skin and a shiny coat as well as overall good health.

  1. Dried Chicory Root

This source of prebiotic fiber provides fuel for the beneficial probiotic bacteria in the digestive system.

  1. DHA

Our all life stages and puppy dog foods are made with salmon oil, an excellent source of DHA. DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid that helps support the development of the brain and vision in puppies, so it is also important for nursing and pregnant dogs.

FAQ’s

Can I feed Taste of the Wild to my puppy?

We have two great puppy-specific formulas in the Taste of the Wild line: High Prairie Puppy and Pacific Stream Puppy. In addition to our puppy formulas you can also feed your puppy any of our All Life Stages formulas, which are formulas developed to meet the nutritional needs of dogs at all ages, from puppy to senior. Our puppy-specific formulas fall under the All Life Stages formula category, but have smaller kibbles. Both our puppy and All Life Stages formulas include specific nutrients, like added DHA that aids in brain and eye development, to help your puppy grow to their full potential. Our All Life Stages formulas include:

  • Pine Forest Canine with Venison & Legumes
  • Southwest Canyon Canine with Wild Boar
  • Sierra Mountain Canine with Roasted Lamb

Can I feed Taste of the Wild to my kitten?

Our two feline formulas — Rocky Mountain Feline and Canyon River Feline — are both formulated to meet the nutritional needs for cats at all stages of life, including kittens.

Do you have a small breed dog formula?

Our Appalachian Valley Small Breed Canine Formula is specifically formulated for small breed adult dogs. This formula has a smaller kibble and is more energy dense with higher protein and fat ratios, meaning your adult dog can eat smaller portions to meet their nutritional requirements. While our Appalachian Valley Formula was developed specifically with small breed adult dogs in mind, all of our formulas will meet the nutritional requirements of small breed adult dogs.   For small breed puppies, we recommend our two puppy-specific formulas, which also have a smaller kibble, or any of our All Life Stages formulas.

Do you have a large breed dog formula?

While we do not have a large breed-specific formula, all of our formulas meet the nutritional needs of large breed adult dogs. However, only our puppy-specific and All Life Stages formulas meet the nutritional needs of large breed puppies.

What is the size and shape of the Taste of the Wild kibbles?

The kibbles in our adult canine and All Life Stages formulas are a flat, round disc shape and approximately the diameter of a dime. The kibbles in our small breed formula (Appalachian Valley) and puppy-specific formulas are barrel-shaped and about the size of a pencil eraser. The kibbles in our feline formulas are shaped like a round disc and are about the size of a pencil eraser.
