About Bibens Ace

Hardware stores in Vermont, paint, tools, supplies, construction, fishing supplies, Ace Hardware

What sets us apart from other hardware stores?

We listen to the Public everyday on what they need to buy and through the backing of our Distribution Center of over 65,000 items and our four other sister stores we go out of our way to accommodate that customer’s needs.  We’re our own Buyers and we can get the items here at least twice a week if not sooner.  Few other retailers can match that combination.

Bibens Ace Springfield

The first location was founded in 1942 by Eric R. Bibens, a builder of fine homes up until 1972, at which point he decided to expand the retail store to 6,500 square feet and close the construction division.  The store was under the Service Star Hardware co-op until 1982 when current owner, Eric R. Bibens II purchased the business from his father and converted it to ACE Hardware.  In 1986 the original property was sold, re-opening in a newly constructed 18,000 square foot lot, with a 12,500 square foot retail space, of which remains in operation today.

Here at this location there is a mix of contractor and consumer business with a complete line of lumber and building materials, allowing us to supply our customers from start to finish for their remodeling and construction projects; we can supply all your needs from capping the foundation, to roof trusses, to the composite decking on your porch, to those replacement windows you may need.

Additionally, there is a glass and screen center where we cut glass and screening for your house projects as well as build custom screens and storms on site to fit your needs.  There is also a complete paint department with customized computer matching for Ace Paints alongside a full line of Benjamin Moore as well.  If you are looking to complete any paint project we have the paint expert on staff that can answer all you painting questions.   And don’t miss our power equipment sales department, where we feature Husqvarna Power Equipment and stock a complete line of chainsaws, trimmers, tractors and lawn mowers just to mention a few.  We have a full time service mechanic and service not only our Husqvarna products, but most makes and models that our customers bring to in.  To complete our list of services we fill propane tanks and RV’s as well.  And check out our complete line of Blue Seal Feed, along with a showroom dedicated to all pet food, leashes and toys.

Bibens Ace Colchester

In August of 2000, Rick Bibens purchased his second store, the 1st located in northern Vermont, Lakeshore Hardware & Marine, now known as Bibens Ace Colchester.   This location is a 10,000 square foot store located on Mallets Bay, overlooking beautiful Lake Champlain, thus providing easy access to and from the lake for all of our marine customers.  As one of the only locally owned hardware stores in the area, we offer all departments of Ace Hardware.  However, we are unique in that we offer a full line of hunting, fishing, and marine items, complete with live bait and Vermont State hunting and fishing licenses.  As the store was originally built years ago as a hardware store, Bibens Ace Colchester is proud to continue the tradition of generations past, those who come back time and time again for the same goods, year after year.

Bibens Ace South Burlington

In August of 2002, Bibens expanded again, beginning to develop a new 14,000 sq. ft. retail space, the largest of our stores, in South Burlington, Vermont.  The store opened November 11th, 2002 and offers the full line of Ace Hardware, convenience, and above-and-beyond service that is a trademark of our other locales. With the spacious layout of this location in particular,  we have the ability to showcase many of our items directly on the sales floor, from Keurig to Carhartt, and even our superb displays of RTA furniture, Super Deck, and Vermont Natural Coatings. And coming soon, we'll have the equipment to cut almost any key for home or auto!

Bibens Ace Burlington

In January of 2006, Hills True Value Hardware was purchased, becoming Bibens Ace Burlington, an 8,900 square foot store that was converted to the Ace Hardware banner.  The store offers all standard departments of Ace Hardware and its superior customer service, as well an extensive line of lawn and garden products.  We serve a wide gamut of customers from homeowners, various Housing associations, nursing homes, colleges, and the City of Burlington, and we are at the forefront of providing "Green" products to our very environmentally conscious cliental.  Furthermore, we provide small tool rentals such as post hole diggers, gas tillers, and lawn spreaders.

We go beyond our competitors with our level of service.  From putting watch batteries in to cutting pvc pipe to helping fix that leaky toilet, we have formed a special bond with our customers--the mutual trust and respect is something we are very proud of.  Hills had been a solid fixture for more than 50 years in the Burlington North End, and we are grateful to be able to continue that tradition.

Bibens Ace Essex

The latest of Bibens's expansions, this location was a ground up project that opened its doors to the public in April, 2008, located in the Essex Shoppes and Cinema Outlet Mall directly across from the Essex Cinema.  We continue to offer all standard departments as well as the same convenience and superior customer service of our other four locations.  However, since it's larger than most neighborhood hardware stores, it allows for a larger assortment in each category, a very complete selection, including all the latest products on the market.  And if we don't carry it, we don't say "No, we don't have it,"  we say, "We can find it for you" and in most cases, have it in 1-3 days!

Here we have a unique personality with creative quick and easy ideas for our consumers.  We not only greet our customers, we talk to them, learn the details of their projects, and help them complete them in the best way possible.  We share a laugh and connect with people on a different level, this makes us much more efficient and easier for customers to ask a wide range of question.  At our service counter, we repair screens and windows, as well as cut keys, pipe, rope, chain, screen, and glass for those "do-it-yourself" jobs.  Our aisles are clear, clean, and organized, and we feature fast checkout.  We want all our customers to be completely satisfied, finding that same enjoyment within our store as we do!

We welcome you at all of our locations!  We're happy to help you in any way we can, continuing the tradition of the helpful place with a family face.
